Dads will ride in at 3:30 p.m.
Kevin Gibson and his cousin, John Hearn, are going to ride their bikes from Vancouver to Toronto in
June/July 2003 in order to raise awareness and funds for the Canadian National
Institute for the Blind (CNIB). They both have daughters that are visually
impaired and have benefited from the resources of the CNIB. This is Kevin and
John's way of giving back to the CNIB. John works for Dresser Flow
Solutions in Burlington, and his company is very supportive of this venture. Kevin
is an Royal Canadian Mounted Police officer in Toronto-West detachment in Ontario
and the RCMP applauds their efforts.
They hope to raise $150,000 towards making the
CNIB's library available over the internet. The total cost is $33 million. Blind children have to wait sometimes over a year
to get an audio book from the existing CNIB library, but with the funding to
digitize their library, blind children will have instant access to their
favourite stories over the internet. Kevin and John are making this trek completely
unsupported and at their own expense, so every donation you make goes directly to
CNIB.
